    6. 1 Timothy 6:15
    7. Revelation 19:16
  2. This is an often misunderstood doctrine -Ex. Premillennialism.
  3. One who says "My life is my own;" "Do I have to …" doesn't understand the Biblical concept that Jesus Christ is King of Kings.

Discussion

  1. The Reality of His Kingship
    1. The Old Testament prophesied of his kingship.
      1. Daniel 2:44
      2. Daniel 7:13, 14
      3. Micah 4:1, 2
    2. The New Testament opens with the time of his kingship described as near.
      1. Matthew 3:1, 2
      2. Matthew 4:17
      3. Matthew 16:18, 19.
      4. Acts 1:3
    3. Three different concepts converge concerning the kingship of Christ.
      1. Power - Mark 9:1
      2. Place (Jerusalem) - Luke 24:46, 47
      3. Person (The Holy Spirit) -Acts 1:8
      4. Pentecost is the time that these concepts converged - Acts 2:1-4, 22-24, 29-32, 36.
    4. The New Testament speaks of the kingdom as being in existence during the first century.
      1. In the book of Acts:
        1. Acts 8:12
        2. Acts 14:22
        3. Acts 19:8
        4. Acts 20:25
        5. Acts 28:23
        6. The preaching of Paul was clear - Acts 17:7
      2. Colossians 1:5, 6.
        1. Colossians 1:13
        2. The gospel of the kingdom (Matthew 13:19 - "the word of the kingdom") came to Colossae - they heard and obeyed and thereby became part of the kingdom.
        3. Matthew 24:14
      3. Revelation 1:9
    5. Christ is NOW reigning over his kingdom.
      1. 1 Corinthians 15:24-26
      2. Some have Jesus beginning to reign at the time the Bible says he delivers the kingdom to God.
  2. His Right to His Kingship
    1. There can be no denying his Power to Rule - Revelation 17:14
    2. The Proof of His Resurrection.
      1. Revelation 1:5
      2. "Faithful witness" - his claims and his prophecies.
        1. Matthew 12:39, 40
        2. Matthew 27:63
      3. "First begotten" - his resurrection -Not the first to be raised, but the first raised to die no more (Romans 6:9).
    3. The Price He Paid to Redeem.
      1. "Loved us and washed us from our sins in his own blood."
      2. Revelation 5:9
      3. Matthew 26:28
  3. The Relationship of His Kingship to My Life
    1. My Humility before Him.
      1. Matthew 18:3
      2. Luke 5:8
      3. Isaiah 6:1-5.
    2. The Honor that I give Him.
      1. 1 Timothy 1:17
      2. How could we reach a point where we are not willing to fall before him in humble worship and praise?
      3. Ex. We want to be with our children when they have activities, not because we are afraid of what others will say if we are not there, but because we love them.
      4. Hebrews 10:25 - the problem is not a failure to know that we ought to be present, it may very well be a failure to recognize Jesus as King of kings.
      5. "Too much church" - never does one say "too much grace/forgiveness/blessings."
      6. If he is King of kings, I should be willing to serve and worship him.
    3. Hypocrisy must be guarded against.
      1. Matthew 27:29
      2. If in my daily life I do not submit to his will in the way I seem to do so in worship, I am no different from these soldiers.
      3. Hypocrites do not understand the significance of Jesus as "King of kings."
      4. Luke 6:46.

Conclusion

  1. Jesus is King of kings - have you submitted yourself to him?
