- Problem
- Symptom.
- The inheritance is not the problem, but a symptom of a deeper problem.
- Often we deal with symptoms - ex. attendance.
- Jesus did not deal with the symptom, but went to the heart of the matter.

- He could build barns and houses, but not a life.
- Verse 21.
- Principles
- The Ineffectiveness of Anxiety - v. 22-28
- Anxiety follows covetousness like night follows day.
- Greed always wants more - anxiety always needs more.
- Anxiety cannot feed or clothe or increase one's life span.
- A man may worry himself to death, but he cannot worry himself into a
longer life.
- Not only is anxiety unprofitable, it is unnecessary.
- Verse 22, 23 - surely God who gave life/body will supply food/clothing.
- He cares for fowls (v. 24) flowers (v. 27) - surely he will care for the
faithful.
- Anxiety stems from a lack of faith.
- The Importance of Faith - v. 28-30
- Anxiety and faith are diametrically opposed.
- Why are we anxious for food, clothing, etc? we have put our trust in
unprofitable mammon and not in God.
- The key to life is trust in God.
- When we get wrapped up in the things of this earth that we forget what
life's all about.
- Ecclesiastes 12:13, 14.
- At our very core, Christians must be different from the world.
- Different in our inner yearnings, our heart is set on different things, we
are controlled by different ideals, we are motivated by a different love.
- It is due to a lack of faith when we hardly differ from the world in the
ambitions/ cherish, goals/achieve, conduct/social lives, literature/
songs/friends, etc.
- Verse 29 - "doubtful mind" - tossed to and fro; a ship without
an anchor.
- Anxiety that wrecks our lives or an Anchor that stabilizes our lives.
- The Investment in the Kingdom - v. 31-34
- This is the natural result of faith.
- Proverbs 19:17
- Think of the number of people who have invested in a cemetery plot for
their bodies, but have done nothing for the soul.
- Psalm 49:6-15.
- Verse 33 - contrast this benevolent spirit with the rich farmer.
- Yet, how many lives revolve around things?
- How many things could we eliminate and still live a comfortable life?
- How many things would we have to eliminate to live a sacrificial life?
- If we sold our luxuries, how many missionaries could we send out?
- "A treasure that faileth not."
- Psalm 89:33
- Psalm 100:5
- Psalm 106:1
- John 3:16.
- John 4:14
- John 6:35
- 1 Peter 1:4, 5
Conclusion
- What is YOUR life all about? What has first place in your life?
- Have you made investments in the kingdom - investment that will never
fail?
